AIMS

MVOS has five aims that were developed by RAI, ARFC, and NJ DOH. The aims touch all impact areas of the project, including system and individual level competencies, HIV end point health outcomes, opportunities for HIV prevention and destigmatization, and the creation of new and lasting public/private partnerships. Each aim consists of multiple goals and objects that are fully described below.

1. Embrace community storytelling and expression as an untapped source of qualitative data for system planning using evidence-based models, including mixed methods analysis and implementation science.

2. Create a human resource pathway for interested community members to get involved in system planning starting with stories, leading to NJHPG and other planning groups, and introducing interested persons to the CHW training program. This promotes individual economic resilience.

3. Develop current and relevant exhibit material for use in schools, community centers, clinics, and more! This reinforces local cross-sectoral and civil society collaboration for the purpose of ending HIV).

4. Generate opportunities for local businesses and large corporations to get involved in supporting the community in Hudson and Essex counties. This promotes local economic resilience in the community.

5. Improve HIV Care Continuum performance for key populations (i.e., young gay black men 13-24 and gay black men over 50 in the first two cycles).

The Problem:

Millions of dollars of public funding flow into our community to provide a safety net of needed services, but government officials don’t have a good way of knowing how to spend that money in a way that will better serve our most vulnerable who need the help NOW.

Our Solution:

Our stories have the power to inform and shape the way public funding serves our community to enhance our helath and wellbeing.

As human beings, our stories are both the core of who we are and our greatest tool for impacting the world around us -- they are our fears, dreams, and resilience, and also our voice, our leverage, what we bring to our seat at the table. Every one of us is filled with stories, but this project aims to help us shape those personal narratives into a form that is easily understood and conveys a clear message.

New Jersey Department of Health has sponsored this activity to bring youth voices to the table in designing key health services intended to reduce disparities and improve community health.

My Voice Our Story is recruiting storytellers!

1.) Spanish-speaking migrant women in Camden County, NJ. We are looking for stories about legacy, marianismo, migration, family, and leadership!

2.) People with HIV over 50 years old in Middlesex, Somerset, and Hunterdon Counties, NJ. We are looking for stories about surviving and loss, making sense of complex overlapping clinical conditions, and friendship and romance.

We're fascinated to hear stories of human power and how people overcome obstacles; stories about struggle, survival, failure, success, facing and conquering challenges; stories that shine and stories with grit.

Your story is yours, we want to help you make it as powerful as you are!
